Tiffany is still famous today and the source of distinctive jewelry

There is great beauty and the essence of romanticism in diamond Victorian engagement rings. Queen Victoria, for whom the style is named, had the longest reign in British history. Her taste in jewelry was for the ornate.

Some women prefer modern styles. However, nothing looks and feels as much like romantic love as a fancy Victorian ring. It makes the wearer feel absolutely elegant.

Smaller stones usually surround the one large central diamond. This can be in a row, with another row of small stones above and one below the large center stone and slightly smaller ones on either side.

The gold setting sometimes has a darker tone than found in modern jewelry. The cut of the diamond has multiple facets. Another unusual component of the style of this era is the use of other precious stones on either side of the central diamond.

One of these rings has a one-carat center diamond that is mine cut. It is embellished by filigree. On either side of the large diamond is a beautiful, perfectly matched (to each other), marquise cut sapphire. All is set in white gold with platinum prongs. This Victorian ring has an exquisite quality and look.

The onset of the Industrial Revolution brought more wealth and more interest in spending it on jewelry. Diamonds were found in South African miles. Their availability changed the style of Victorian engagement rings.

It was Christian tradition that dictated wearing an engagement ring on the third finger of the left hand. Before 1549 it was worn on the woman’s right hand. Diamonds signify the concept of permanent love and a lasting marriage.

Tiffany, the famous jeweler, made another Victorian ring. It was a six-prong solitaire of great beauty. Tiffany is still famous today and the source of distinctive jewelry.

There are reliable jewelers who purchase Victorian and other antique jewelry from estates of the wealthy. The pieces are then offered for resale. Many women prefer elegantly fashioned Victorian engagement rings to new modern rings.
